Week One: October 1

Topic: Characters (Section 1 out of 5 of your text)
Assignment:
1. On your group's wiki page, describe the main characters in your text. What makes them interesting? What is their story or background? Why are you drawn to them? Conversely, are there any characters that you just cannot stand? Why not? (A)
2. Person B should share and discuss their selected quotations, using Save The Last Word techniques.
3. Person C should post the meeting summary on the group's wiki page after class.
4.Person D should share his/her questions with the group, as well as post the questions on the group's wiki page

Group Leader (Jessi Levine):
The main characters in our book are Julie and Mike. Julie was married to a man named Jim, who died at the beginning of the book. Mike is Jim's best friend but is in love with Julie. What makes these characters so interesting is that they both have feelings for each other but neither one of them will make a move. It is interesting to read each chapter and see if anything will happen between them, but so far nothing. As a group we all decided that we don't like Richard. First of all we all agree Mike and Julie are meant to be together and Richard is in the way of that. Second Richard is very quiet and he doesn't seem to like Julie's friends too much. And lastly even the dog, Singer, doesn't like Richard. It is really unusual how Singer, Julie's dog, will bark whenever he is around Richard, but he runs and jumps up on Mike. Julie is meant to be with Mike.

Quotation finder( (Nicole Heytink):
1. " I told you he was a nice guy, you can admit you were wrong, you know, i think your just jealous."- pg. 9
2. (She liked mike)- " Mikes your friend, your best friend, and you don't want to ruin things, do you?" pg.17
3 " Why do you keep pretending you don't want to go out with julie?" " Is it because of Jim, because he has been gone for a long time, its not like your trying to steal his wife." pg. 29
4. " No i just wanted to hear your voice, the truth is i wanted to see if you would go out this saturday." pg.32
5. " I get it, He's perfect, she's wonderful, he's Mr. Everything." pg. 49
6. "So should i act like i don't care."--- No act like you do care and want what's best for her." pg. 49
7. He gives her the locket-- " Perfect. Its exactly the way i remember it." pg. 61
8. " Wheres the locket?" - " Does it bother you that much that i didnt wear it." pg. 76

Key Questioner:(Kristina Boele & Maria Kovoros)
1. When you found out Jim died, how did you feel?
They really didn't talk about Jim before he died, only after so we never really knew about him.
2. What do you think about Julie and Mikes frienship? should they be more than friends, or would it ruin the friendship?
We think that they should be more than friends, because they have chemistry.
3. Who do you think Julie should go for? Mike, her best friend and her ex husbands best friend. or Richard, the perfect guy?
We think that she should go for Mike because he is the perfect boyfriend, and was always there for her when Jim died and she knew him for a long time.
4. Why do you think Singer growls at every guy Julie brings home except for Mike?
Singer is protective over Julie and doesn't want to be replaced.
5. If you were in Mike's situation, would you tell Julie how you feel?
Yes, i would definitely think that they should, but it should be at the right time and place.
6) Do you think Julie is really ready to start dating again?
Yes, it has been four years and she seems to have taken Jim's death well and we all believe she is ready.
7) Do you think that since Mike was Jim’s best friend he should not date Julie?
NO, we think that Mike would be the better choice. We think that jim would've wanted her to be happy and to be with someone that he trusts.
8) Does anyone feel like Singer resembles Jim in Julie’s life?
Yes, we feel he has some of the same qualities that Jim had.
9) Why do you think Mike has such a hard time saying he has feelings for Julie?
Because he was Jim's best friend. Also, she is dating Richard and he doesn't want to be rejected.
10) Can you explain Mabel and Julie’s relationship?
They are very good friends and co workers.

Group Summarizer (Morgan Kenny)
Our group had a lot to discuss. We talked a lot about Mike and Richard and which person we think should be with Julie. We basically came to the conclusion that Mike should be the one Julie should end up with. Mike was Jim's best friend and we all feel that we trust him, even though we are only nine chapters into the book. Richard seems like a sketchy person to have a relationship with and i think that even though he is supposedly good looking and a genuinely nice guy, something seems wrong.
We also discussed how difficult it must be for Julie to have to start all over again after losing Jim. It seems like such a brave thing to do after what has happened to her. We think that even though Jim was an important part in her life, it's time to move on.

Week Two: October 8
Topic: Language (Section 2 out of 5 of your text)
Assignment:
1. On your group's wiki page, discuss the type of language that your book contains. Is it easy to read? Conversational? "Classic"? Does it use a lot of words you don't understand? What grade level do you think the book is written at, and why? (A)
2. Person B should share and discuss their selected quotations, using Save The Last Word techniques.
3. Person C should post the meeting summary on the group's wiki page after class.
4.Person D should share his/her questions with the group, as well as post the questions on the group's wiki page

Group Leader: Morgan Kenny
Sometimes this book is easy to read, and other times it can be confusing. The book switches back and forth between characters, so it can sometimes be hard to understand. But the language is easy to read and understand. I think this book is written at a high school level or higher. It's themes are for a more mature audience and the language is more advanced.

Quotation Finder: Jessi Levine
-"You don't know what your talking about, you stupid grease monkey. It's not illegal you hear me? pg. 80
-"'suffer not the terrible singers, for they shall ruin ears.'" pg. 89

Key Questioner: Nicole Heytink & Kristina Boele

At first we thought that he wasn't joking, but after he said "i'm just kidding" is when we realized that he was joking?

8. What would you do if you found the note that Richard left for Julie?
We all said that we would never talk/call him again.
9. If you were Mike, how would you feel if you found out that Julie broke up with Richard?
We think that Mike would be happy if he found that out because he wants to be with her.
10. If you were Mike, would you tell Julie what you heard about Richard?
Yes because he wants her to think that he is bad and wants her to go with him, and no because he wouldn't want to be the guy that broke them up and make her mad at him.

Group Summarizer: Maria Kovoros
Today, our group we discussed what happened in the section of the book we read. The main purpose of this section was that Julie broke up with Richard and she went on a date with Mike. We also discussed who would be better for Julie and we decided it would be Mike because Richard is sketchy and we aren't sure of his motives. We also discussed why it was so hard for Mike to ask Julie out and their relationship in this section of the book.
